This three-part education and discussion series will offer information and the chance to share experiences with others who care for or support an older adult. Approximately 60 percent of the adult population either is or expects to be a caregiver. Caregiving for aging family members, along with trying to manage the demands of family, work and other commitments can be an overwhelming task. Register for one or all three seminars.

Modern medicine has worked miracles. As a result, elders tend to live longer. At the same time, the chances of chronic illness or decreased functional capacity are rising. As we move into middle adulthood, many of us will be called upon to provide or arrange care for an aging parent or loved one. This program is for those currently facing this situation or for those anticipating what lies ahead.

It’s extremely painful to watch people we love lose their memory, engage in uncharacteristic behavior and lose their ability to recognize us. As they manifest these symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, we offer help as we can, but we often end up feeling helpless and powerless. This training program can help us gain a better understanding of these conditions, discover what treatments are available and explore its impact on the family.

Parenting Your Teens – An Adolescent Education Series
This three-part web series will address the varied challenges of parents raising adolescents. Today’s children are entering puberty earlier, leading a more indulged life, and getting exposed to more in the media and on the internet than any other generation. Ideal for parents of children 12 to 17 years of age but all parents are welcome. Register for one or all three seminars.

This class will look at the realities and benefits of the internet. We’ll discuss the importance of learning internet “language” and how to identify concerns and risk. Participants will learn strategies to increase online safety, specifically texting , social networking and chat rooms. A list of resources and monitoring software will be provided.

Parents will learn which healthy habits are important to school success, how to help teens deal with teachers and academics and how to help teens get organized. Find out how to recognize when your teen is over-involved or under-involved, and how you can help your teen deal with peer pressure and how to effectively discipline your teen.

- Seminar #3: At-risk behavior
This session addresses the realities of today — the good and bad news. We’ll discuss essential facts of at-risk behavior and give you the chance to have frank discussions about your fears. You will learn what to do and what not to do. Substance abuse and mental illness among adolescents will be addressed. You will also have the opportunity to talk with a recovering alcoholic.
